Happy New Year – Some Book Resolutions

This is from today, I went on holiday after the new year (until yesterday), so extended the Christmas and New Year period until today. The resolutions start now!

  • Finally finish (and write about) Les Miserables. I’m currently 70% of the way through, but that still seems like a lot of book! Also, get further through my book bucket list, although I’m not sure how many books I’ll get through – I’m aiming for at least five, perhaps by reading shorter books.
  • Read and rate 50 books on Goodreads this year. Last year I managed 20 in the period from July onward and I’d like to do more reading this year, so I’m going to try and challenge myself.
  • Speaking of Goodreads, organise my library on said site a bit better as if my bookshelves ever go up in flames, that and the books I own in the Kindle cloud will be the only record of the books I own. I'd also like to have over 300 books rated, as I am currently at the 270 mark and am sure I could bump it up with books I've already read!
  • Buy fewer books. Read more books I already own, but keep using the library for books that I’d like to read that I don’t already own. Aside from A Song of Ice and Fire, which I may allow myself to buy but only once I've finished the current book in the series. I might allow myself free books from Amazon, but as I already have over 100 on my Kindle, I may attempt to wean myself off using it so frequently, as inevitably it ends up in my finding ‘a bargain’ that doesn't cost that much, but it does mount up when I do it regularly.
  • Review more books here, as I've recently been reading lots of books but not writing anything about them. I’d like to try and write a short review for every book I read, even if it’s not all that poetic. I think I get overly intimidated by other people's reviews, which is daft and I should try and write my own reviews before I see what other people have to say. Might as well use this blog a bit more, even though I am readerless. I enjoy it anyway, which is its main purpose.
Anyway, I shall have to get reading, writing and organising, particularly if I am going to get  to the 50 book/5 book mark this year!
